Back-end Engineer, EMEA (m/f/d)

ASB GlassFloor • GlassCourt OS • Netherlands (Hybrid)

About the job

At ASB GlassFloor we are proud to have developed the most advanced indoor sports and event flooring product; a fully professional grade sports surface with integrated LED, which provides an incredibly exciting new playing field for professional sports, entertainment and even education.

At the heart of this innovation lies GlassCourt OS (GCOS) – an interactive software solution that acts as a central hub to process real-time data and display visually stunning content on LED court hardware. The platform supports professional coaching through player tracking and with real-time feedback, as well as sponsorship and marketing activations, live broadcasts, and immersive sport event experiences.

Since launching in 2023, and with the support of leading sports institutions such as FIBA, EuroLeague and the NBA, ASB GlassFloor have hosted the FIBA U19 Women’s World Cup, NBA All-Star Weekend and FIBA Champions League Final Four, as well as having permanent courts at FC Bayern Munich Basketball, Panathinaikos A.O. in Athens, and the ASB x NBA Athlete Lab in Orlando, Florida.

This 16h / week hybrid role is hired out of Amsterdam, the Netherlands, suitable for candidates within a commutable distance of central Amsterdam.

What you’ll do

Our backend / “Core” is the center of our GlassCourt OS ecosystem. You’ll contribute to ensure that these systems are integrated, scalable, secure, well-documented and maintained.

  • Help design and implement core services, data models, and system integrations for reliability, performance, security, and core systems maintenance.
  • Design and develop backend services in Node.js / TypeScript for high-performance, real-time applications.
  • Architect and maintain low-latency APIs and event-driven systems.
  • Design and implement a maintainable, secure and efficient data storage solution.
  • Architect and implement automated deployment strategies.
  • Explore new technologies to push the boundaries of what’s possible on the court and drive continuous iteration and improve performance, scalability, and reliability of our core systems.
  • Remote and/or on-site deployments when required, travel within Europe and the USA may be required.
  • Support critical incident resolution, post-incident reviews, and long-term preventative improvements.

What you’ll bring

  • Proven experience shipping production code at scale (ideally 5+ years), with a strong focus on Node.js / TypeScript
  • Architecture mindset: you document decisions and think API-first with deep understanding of API design, system architecture, and event-driven or real-time patterns.
  • Experience with scalability and performance optimization
  • Comfortable making and defending technical decisions while balancing quick iteration with rock-solid reliability (sports events don’t get a second take)
  • User-led approach: proven experience designing for sports coaches, athletes and fans
  • Proven experience using agile ways of working
  • Adaptable interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with cross-functional teams
  • Fluency in English is required; Dutch and/or German is a plus but not essential
  • Legally permitted to work in the Netherlands, or willing to relocate.

Experience with SQL, Docker, event queues, CI/CD pipelines and familiarity with WebSockets, OSC, MQTT or other real-time data protocols is ideal but not essential

What We Offer

  • Inside Professional Sports: Access to international professional sport, sporting events and personalities.
  • Real flexibility: you have the choice to work hybrid or in the office full-time with the freedom of flexible working hours to structure your day fitting your needs.
  • High impact from day one: your work will directly influence the product, customers, and how we operate as a company.
  • Open communication: your voice matters and your contributions are visible.
  • Collaborative and supportive team: you will work alongside driven, ambitious people who care about building great products, without layers of management.
  • Purpose driven work: you’ll be joining at a formative stage to shape the future of indoor sports, performance technology, and fan engagement.
  • 30 days paid annual leave
  • Paid parental leave: irrespective of parenting role
